First-Ever Map of Water on Moon Could Help Support Lunar Missions

For the first time, scientists have mapped the distribution of water trapped in the moon’s soil, which could come in handy for planning future missions to the lunar surface. In 2009, NASA’s LCROSS (Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite) probe discovered traces of water and a related molecule called hydroxyl, which consists of hydrogen and oxygen, in soil on the moon.
